I found the Project Management course to be really valuable. After the course, I managed to motivate a colleague to complete an overdue task within a short time frame, something which I have struggled with in the past. Maryam Khan - Associate HR Professional - Médecins Sans Frontières
I really enjoyed the Project Management course yesterday, I came away with new ways of thinking and fresh ideas to take back to the office. Asha - Network and membership coordinator - NHS Providers
The Project Management Course certainly gave me my positive attitude to make this project a success. Thanks to the training, I realised what the blind spots are and I was able to address them… and I will certainly use the materials you provided me in the next steps of my project and future projects. Our project management training courses in London teach people skills rather than a methodology such as PRINCE2.
It's an opportunity for you to look at the way you handle and manage the people on your projects.
Your project will live or die by the dedication of those involved in it.
So the primary focus in our project management training courses is on getting the best out of all those involved.
Including you!
There will be a considerable focus on the more recent need to manage projects remotely.
This project management course is tailored to reflect the needs of the delegates.
Unlike many other project management courses in London, we prefer not to focus on process-based work such as Prince or Prince2, and instead hone in on people skills and getting buy-in and motivation.
The project management course will include many of the exercises listed below and any additional material that the trainers feel is relevant on the day.
We start by looking at you as a project manager.
What do you already have?
What do you need to support you in getting the most out of the project and your team?
Sometimes it might be less about what you know and more about who you know!
We look at the soft skills needed to set objectives, implement and complete a project.
The first step in managing any project is to decide what the outcome should be.
Then we can look at how to achieve it.
A project will have a desirable business outcome, but what about the people involved, including you?
Looking at what personal benefits you and others want from the project will help you motivate the whole team to deliver.
We take a look at how to facilitate discussions. You'll learn how to open up and generate ideas that will take the project forward, before closing down the options and making decisions.
Who, what and why
We'll take a look at who you need to rope into your team to get the outcome you want.
We'll talk about the roles they play and how to get buy-in from them, especially when they are not under your direct control.
What is the nature of commitment and how do you get it from people?
We have some tips and techniques you can use once your project management plans are in place, to help you communicate effectively with those that need to know, upwards, downwards and sideways!
Keeping control of the project
When the project is in full flow you want to look and feel like you are in control.
As part of the project management course, we'll take a look at how you can achieve good project management with some simple exercises to help to keep you in the driving seat.
Delegation can be a double-edged sword.
You get to pass on jobs to other people, but how do you build the trusting relationships that give you peace of mind, knowing the job will be done (almost!) as well as you would have done it yourself?
The best-laid plans of mice and men...
So your plans were great but things aren't quite working out that way you thought.
We have some great tools and techniques to help you deal with people who haven't delivered and let others know that things aren't going to plan.
These can be used in a way that still comes across as professional and in control.
We have a great process for getting stuck projects unstuck so that you can move closer to your ideal outcome.
It is a process that looks at the issues from different angles, encourages creativity in thinking up solutions and ends with a commitment to moving things on.
The final exercise of the day.
Delegates will be asked to acknowledge what it is that they do well and will get feedback from their colleagues on what works about them.
Creation of an individual plan of action identifying your personal take-outs, what you will practise and areas for development.
You will identify what will stop you putting the plan into practice and what support you will need going forward.
We will give out Impact Factory documents to support the course.
You'll get copies of relevant handouts to remind you of the coursework.
Two weeks after the project management course, one of your trainers will call to see how you are getting on.
You will have email and telephone access to both of your trainers.
You'll also have access to a course web page containing
